Lyric Theater is the second largest theater in Broadway, and it can accommodate 1930 people. It opened in 1998. The new Lyric Theater was built by incorporating all the major parts of the old Lyric, built in 1903 and Apollo theater, built in 1920. The dome of the new theater is from the old Lyric; the proscenium arch is from Apollo, the exterior incorporates the ornate Lyric Theatre facades on 43rd and 42nd Streets.<\/p>\n
The old Lyric and Apollo were acquired by the New York city in 1990, when both of the theater were in poor condition. When they were demolished in 1996, all the major building structures were carefully removed and saved.<\/p>\n
